The legalization of Marijuana for medical and recreational use has been a subject of discussion in many states in America. Already, a good number of states  have permitted the use of Marijuana for reasons like recreation and medical allowing its use but only up to a certain extent.  Even in those states where such legislations are yet to be passed there are ongoing legislations to allow the use of Marijuana for the said reasons.

Each passing day see a new state in America pass legislations allowing the use of Marijuana.  A good case in point in this is the state of Georgia.  The state of Georgia is one of the states in America that have maintained a long ban on the use of Marijuana for any reason. In fact, hitherto to 2024, the state of Georgia maintained a total ban on the possession, use and sale of Marijuana.

The state has allowed the use of Marijuana for medical reasons alone.  However, even with this allowance, the state has still imposed serious restrictions in the use of Marijuana for the said reason. These restrictions are stricter compared to other states in America where Marijuana is allowed for medical reasons, here are some details on the changes in the Marijuana laws in Georgia.

Limited Qualifying Conditions

While the state of Georgia has permitted the use of Marijuana for medical use, the state has imposed serious conditions for any people wishing to use Marijuana for this reason. Only patients with recognized conditions are allowed to use Marijuana for this reason.  These conditions include terminal cancer, epilepsy and high cases of sclerosis. People with one or more of the conditions shown herein qualify to use Marijuana for medical use but to do so, they patients must first obtain a Marijuana registry card.

Low THC Marijuana Use Only

The state of Georgia allows the low THC oil Marijuana use. The oil contains a very small amount of psychoactive compound tertrahydrocannabinol.

 Marijuana Smoking and Vaping

While the state of Georgia permits the use of Marijuana for medical use only, the state further issues directions and restrictions on how the substance is used for medical reasons.  For instance, Georgia does not allow for Marijuana smoking or vaping even for cases of patients with qualifying conditions.  People found violating this directive cannot use the issue of their medical condition as a defence against the felony.

Marijuana Possession Limits

While the state of Georgia allows the possession of Marijuana for people with qualifying conditions mostly patients, the state is very strict on the amount of Marijuana patients can possess.  As per the provisions of the Georgia marijuana laws, patients can only possess small amounts of Marijuana used only for medical reasons alone.  Possession of large Marijuana substances is highly forbidden and punishable by the law.
