About James M. Peterman

As far back as I can remember, I wanted to be a lawyer. Except for that one point in the midst of law school when I told my Dad that I was considering changing goals to pursue a career as a rock musician. His thoughtful response – “Do whatever makes you happy!” Those were wise words, indeed. I took his advice, and I finished earning my J.D. Degree from Marquette University Law School in 1986. After 29+ years as an active attorney licensed in the State of Wisconsin, I remain happily involved in the practice of law.

During my legal journey, I gained invaluable experiences and techniques while serving as a registered lobbyist and legal counsel for Wisconsin County government, a full time Paralegal Instructor/Director of Education/Legal Counsel for an internationally owned private technical school, and a real estate attorney for a title company. After closing hundreds of real estate transactions for buyers and sellers, negotiating countless numbers of contracts and other transactions, and representing clients in Court more times than I can count, I have become the entrepreneur of a private practice law firm with offices in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana. Although I am still admitted to practice in the U.S. Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, the Supreme Court of the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of Illinois and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, these days the majority of my time is spent as an administrator in the firm. My #1 goal – to provide our clients with the best and most efficient legal representation and customer service. My #2 goal – to provide our attorneys and staff with an environment where they can successfully “do what makes them happy”. In the end, it’s our clients who benefit.
